Community Link Project

Kensington Temple's Community Link Programme (CLP) is a vehicle through which we not only preach to our society, but also demonstrate it with practical love and care through a concentrated effort of social action focussed on four main areas of need - elderly, youth, the poor and medical health. It is co-ordinated by Eddie Walsh who has been involved in community work for the last twelve years.

CLP has outreaches and projects that minister to various needs across London such as our work with the homeless, drug addicts, prostitutes and those who have mental health problems. We not only provide for their physical needs such as clothes and food etc., but their spiritual needs and life skills, by networking with other Christian ministries. The main aim of the CLP is to train up leaders who have a burden and call to minister into these areas of need.

CLP seeks to build Social Action Cells (SACs), made up of male and female groups from various professions. The cells will be a response to the cry of the lost, to win, consolidate, disciple and send people into our communities to serve. We have ten cells in various parts of London. Our goal is to have twenty-four cells by the end of 2003. CLP plans to challenge and equip as many cells in the network to start their own community project. Basic training will be provided through ‘Awareness Days’. We also have training available for those who are interested in networking with Local Authority groups, as well as our own CLP update newsletter.

Networking is essential to the success of CLP. We recently teamed up with the organisation ‘Life for The World’ that deals with substance abuse and behaviour disorders. The ‘Touchstones’ organisation also deal with mental health, and alongside the Domestic Violence Intervention Project, these are but a few of the new links that have been formed this year.

We are also involved with the School Of Leaders’, training the students for social action to impact the cities and countries through God's love and care. Part of our faith goal is to have a Hostel/Rehabilitation Centre for substance abusers, and also a Training and Educational Centre for young disadvantaged people, whilst encouraging churches and groups to start Day Centres where people can receive help for their various needs.

Many great Reformers of the last century were inspired and driven by a personal life-changing faith in Christ. They took for granted that real faith would show itself in action, and that real action would change society, fighting poverty, injustice and oppression. People like Wilberforce and Shaftesbury fought to end slavery and child labour, while others sharpened the nation’s conscience in many areas, setting up hospitals, schools, orphanages and other projects, yet today many "Christians" have lost this concern.
If you are in a cell, or you are a leader who has a burden to become an active part of the community through cells, then contact Eddie Walsh for further details: clp@kt.org
