Dance - Buy this book

Dance-Shaping Lives through creative movement is a wonderful read exploring an array of different elements of dance as a godly art form. This book has a wealth of experience and revelation of lessons that the authors have learnt on their journey through their ministry. The authors explore topics such as creating a dance team; dance through the prophetic, worship praise and warfare and exploring different styles of choreography. These chapters from start to finish ooze the heart of making disciples whilst reclaiming dance as a Godly art form. Moreover, the authors want to encourage members of the body to actively be part of being Disciples of Christ. By creating pieces and performances that not only are in line with the heart of God through but also in line with the heart of the leader.

The Summer School

KTPAS Kensington Temple Performing Arts School

The KT Performing Arts School summer school; takes place Monday to Friday for two weeks, commencing on Monday 8th August and continuing each weekday until Friday 19th August, with optional performances at the Saturday night service in KT on the 20th August.

The school focuses on the three main disciplines of performing arts: acting, dancing and singing. It is an opportunity for those that are unable to attend a full time performing arts course to have that experience and understand the intensity and hard work that it involves. It is also an opportunity for those that are considering studying in the arts to see what it would be like. It is also there for those that have a gifting or a talent and would like to nurture it that bit more.

The theme of our summer school is 'Christ the Artist'. We often look at God as our creator, but he is so much more than that. He has talent, precision and passion and he is, of course, excellent at his craft. We don't think of God as an artist yet we walk, live and breathe his great masterpiece and we ourselves are a fine example of his craftsmanship. During the school we not only want to look at his astounding accomplishments but also at how he always achieves such excellence and how that brings us down to his character. Artists can be seen as unstable people with a known temperament. We would like to look at this and see why that is. Artists are of course passionate people; but what is it that causes them to appear unstable to and how can we improve on that? Looking at things like self-esteem and self-discipline, we will identify what makes each individual special and that as artists we don't all need to be clones, that variety and difference is good and, most important of all, it is acceptable!

Our desire and passion is for artists to be secure in who they are and what they were called to do and be - just Israel Houghton has pleaded in his song, for this generation to "know who they are in him". There will be a lot of singing, dancing and acting and there will also be a couple of surprises to help give the students a more holistic understanding and view of the arts. The teachers are of a very high standard and are all trained in the arts and many have a very successful CV. It is going to be an exciting time. We had a wonderful experience last few summers where students really flourished and developed their gifting hugely over the course of the two weeks.

We will start every day with a creative devotion to make sure that we are on the right footing and with the right focus. Then each day the students will have at least 3 different classes focusing on different elements. So, for example, one day might have a creative devotion, followed by a street dance class, followed by acting techniques and finishing with a singing class. There will be a lot of different dance styles and acting techniques that will be developed during the course.

This year's Summer School will be a great experience and a learning curve for all that embark on the journey with us. Students should be over 16 - but there is no limit after that. We hope that you can join us for this awesome experience to discover more about yourselves, your talents and your gifting and your character as we unpack Christ the Artist. See you there!

Daily Verse

Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
